Additional Services from NCC Bund Lining Site

Bund Lining systems are frequently installed in conjunction with other works on both new construction and refurbishment projects.

So to assist our Bund Lining clients and customers we are developing these pages of ‘Ancillary Materials and Product Information’ as a source of reference for some typical works that may also be required on your project, where normally these links in this page and elsewhere in the text will take you to our other websites with specialised materials focus, including:

Many bund and containment lining systems are the same or similar to resin flooring systems used for the production, processing and packaging areas of manufacturing plants or other industrial and commercial facilities. Not surprising as the same mix of mechanical, chemical and thermal resistance is required – and many bund or containment areas have large horizontal surfaces that are also subject to traffic and therefore very similar to the process area floors in many ways.

NCC can advise and provide on all of nthe resin flooring technolofies available and have also many years of experience in this closely related field.

Please visit www.ResinFlooringSite.co.uk or for relatively simple floor paint or coating requirements there is also information and you can buy online from www.BuyFloorPaint.co.uk

Compatible wall coating systems are frequently required in areas where resin flooring is to be applied – particularly in areas that have to be hygienic, decontaminable, easily cleaned or chemically resistant for example.

NCC resin specialists are also expert in the selection and application of specialist wall coating systems – the best materials are also based on similar synthetic resins to the resin flooring materials and have similar application and performance characteristics when correctly selected, specified, applied and cured. Therefore for advice and assistance on the specialist wall coatings for your project, please contact any of our offices and one of our specialists will be pleased to help you.

There are different types of joints that can be present in concrete substrates intended for resin flooring systems to be installed.

These joints can include:

Expansion Joints / Movement Joints: Which are basically the same thing, joints in the concrete to allow for the concrete to expand and contract over time due to shrinkage, settlement, thermal influences or dynamic loading.

Expansion / movement joints must always be brought through the resin floor topping and sealed with an appropriate floor joint sealant – typically Sikaflex - Pro3WF is one of the best and also available from NCC.

For advice and assistance with the movement joint treatment and sealing on your project, please call any of our offices and one of our specialists will be pleased to help you.

Construction Joints / Daywork Joints / Isolation Joints / Connection Joints: These joints may have different functions or have been formed for different reasons, but their performance in a floor build up is similar. Construction joints are not normally designed to accommodate defined ‘movement capabilities’ as such, but as with any joint or ‘separation’ layer between different elements or materials in a structure, there will be some movement at these points due to thermal influences or dynamic loading, etc.

Therefore when a resin flooring system is not specifically designed to be ‘crack-bridging’ and accommodate this movement, then the joint surface should be pre-sealed or over-banded with a flexible material or higher modulus sealant prior to the resin floor installation.

For more information please also refer to the ‘Bund Repairs’ page of this Bund Lining website.

For specific advice on the construction joints on your project, please call any of our offices and one of our specialists will help you make the right joint sealing decisions.
